In a performance of excerpts from the famed Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, principals Rebecca Gibel and Jude Sandy from Trinity Repertory Company previewed its production for supporters of The Opera House, Newport.
Hostess Ellen Barnes graciously donated her home on Bellevue Avenue, which became a western landscape for the evening cocktails.
With the performers speaking to the guests and describing the action, and their interpretation of the characters of Ado Annie and Will Parker, delighted with the songs “I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say No” and “With Me, It’s All or Nothing.” Their strong voices rang above excellent pianist, and Trinity Rep Board of Trustees member Curt Columbus talked about the production – “we’re doing some innovative staging”, and the future of Newport’s Opera House.
Seen were hostess Ellen Barnes, Brenda Calkins, Mary Lou Riker, Gladys Szapary, Syd Williams and Lois Lang.
